4 STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT TCNJ students are achievers. The educational experience the college delivers allows them to excel. Not only are our students prepared to succeed, they are relentlessly pursuing their next opportunity. In the most recent Career Center survey of 2013 graduates, 93 percent of students who responded to the survey were either employed or in graduate school within 12 months of graduation. TCNJ grads have found jobs at Google, Johnson & Johnson, Lockheed Martin, JPMorgan Chase, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, or have entered competitive graduate programs at prestigious institutions like Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, and Harvard Law School. NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION (NSF) GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP Dylan McClung '15 (left) won a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship, which recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based graduate work. McClung is pursuing his PhD at the University of California–Berkeley. ROBOTS FOR RELIEF Mechanical engineering students Mehdi Benmassaoud '16, Evan Cignarella '16, Alex Fayerman '16, Tanner Muir '16, and Mike Sebok '16 captured first place in the American Society for Mechanical Engineers regional student design competition. The team's scaled-down version of a transporter simulated how a robotic device could be used to carry supplies over rugged terrain—a need in many humanitarian relief efforts. The national finals will take place in November. GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIPS Mathematics major Alana Huszar '16 (pictured) was named a Goldwater Scholar, the country's most prestigious undergraduate award for students in mathematics, science, and engineering. Chemistry majors Susan Knox '16 and Andrew Ruff '16 and psychology major/chemistry minor Jenna Krizan '16 received honorable mentions. Universities are allowed to nominate only four students, and all four TCNJ nominees won honors in the competition. BOREN AND GILMAN SCHOLARSHIPS Mi-Yeon Park '17 received Boren and Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships, which will fund her yearlong enrollment at Beijing Foreign Studies University in China this fall. The Boren Scholarship is a competitive award funded by the federal government and given to students with serious interest in areas of the world that are underrepresented in study abroad. The Gilman Scholarship aims to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go by offering awards to US undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints.
