23 SUMMER 2026 WTSR received an equipment glow-up in 2012 when all analog was replaced with digital audio equipment. "Shows are now all automated; the DJs run their shows off the computer," says Potucek. And with social media taking off, the station experimented with new ways of interacting with bands to produce a broader range of content. I WAS AT WTSR from 2012 to 2016, and that's really when social media started to change things, and digital content became more important. We were figuring out how to create content and carve out our market on the internet. One way was to bring Underground more to life. We did band interviews, we'd play them on air, and then we also started a blog and added the transcripts there. There were times we filmed live sessions at Underground or other shows, and we'd put clips on YouTube that were picked up by bigger news sources. We would tag bands, and they would respond. So we were developing a communal space, where we were partners with the bands. We were showing support by playing their music and creating on-demand content. And because these bands were kind of up and coming and looking for the eyes and ears that we had, they would call in or message us. I developed social media strategy, created content, and looked at analytics to figure out what worked for us and what didn't. A lot of those foundations I was then able to bring into my digital marketing career.
