22 The College of New Jersey Magazine This era brought a 24/7 broadcast schedule and a transition from analog to digital operations at WTSR. February 2007 marked the launch of wtsr.org, making the station's broadcasting radius virtually limitless. "Being on the internet was the bomb," says Ms. Sue Ms. Sue ("so nice, you say it twice!"), a longtime community volunteer DJ. "People everywhere could listen." I HAD A SHOW EVERY SEMESTER from sophomore year until I graduated. My last year was when WTSR started streaming. It went from "I don't know who's hearing me right now" to my dad being able to listen from afar. That was fun; he called in and said, "OK, now I know you're legit." The memory that sticks with me the most, though, is when I got a call from a guy who was a delivery driver in the area. He listened to WTSR (and specifically my show) while on the job and wanted to put in a request. A few months later, a friend and I were at a gig for the pop-punk band Say Anything at Theatre of the Living Arts in Philadelphia. This guy asks, "Are you Lauren? From WTSR?" It was the guy who made the request, and he overheard me talking and recognized my voice. He was at the concert because he had heard Say Anything on my show and enjoyed the band enough to want to check them out — the highest compliment for a music lover. breakiNG NeWs "I had to announce the passing of Christopher Reeve, the toughest news item I ever had to read." SCOTT NAPOLITANO '06 "We usually held an Election Night special on the air, with political commentary and live reports from the different campaign headquarters in the area. I was in my car on my way to one of these locations when I heard on the radio that Florida was initially called for Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election. Little did we know it would be weeks before the winner would be finally decided." RYAN GREEN '01 LAUREN SCOTT '07 DJ "I loved getting to play the music I was obsessed with and learning about new music, too."
