47 Class Notes WINTER 2022 Remembrance Gwendolyn Jones, 1930–2021 Professor of education emerita I first met Professor Jones in 1979 in her Children's Literature and Storytelling class. I was captivated by her (as was everyone in the class), mesmerized by her eloquent English accent and meticulous articulation, diction, and pronunciation of every word. Her graceful, dramatic movements, long dangling earrings, and hair in an upsweep created a vision of elegance in motion. I think we saw her as English royalty at Trenton State College; we knew she was our American treasure. An outstanding educator, committed to teacher education and training, she was a storyteller par excellence. Storytelling, the oral tradition, was at the heart of her instruction. She founded the Garden State Storytellers League, and, thereby, extended her classroom into the community, bringing storytelling programs to schools, libraries, nursing homes, museums, and festivals. Sharing the human experience and life's universal truths, her mantra was: "Keep the art of storytelling alive and well."
