6 Good News Emilie Lounsberry, professor of journalism and professional writing, won a 2018 Salute to Excellence Award from the National Association of Black Journalists. Lounsberry's winning piece, "Testilying," was co-authored by Philadelphia Inquirer staffer Michaelle Bond and appeared in the Inquirer in 2017. Her reporting ultimately contributed to the outcome of a long- embattled case in which a Philadelphia man was freed from 28 years in prison and deemed "likely innocent" in a 1991 murder. Lisa LaJevic, associate professor of art and art history, received the 2019 Higher Education Division Award from the Executive Board of Art Educators of New Jersey. The award recognizes individuals within the membership who have achieved the highest level of professionalism in the field of visual arts education and who have contributed their services in an exemplary manner to AENJ and the goals espoused for the profession. ARTS AND COMMUNICATION SCHOOL OF THE Escaping the Epidemic An interactive multimedia digital fabrication class designed and built a Spanish flu–themed escape room called "Escape the Epidemic!" where students followed clues to cure a patient infected with flu. The escape room was one of several projects and lectures in a fall 2018 series called "Plague, Progress, and Prevention: 100 Years after the 'Spanish' Flu Changed the World."
