Winning Hack Four engineering students won "Best Utility Hack" in HackTCNJ — an annual competition where students spend a weekend building an app, website, or product to compete for various prizes. Their project, the "Super Automated Bumpin' Request Engine," provides a crowdsourced music playlist based on user upvotes — perfect for parties and events. Extreme Makeover Armstrong Hall is getting a facelift in the third and final phase of TCNJ's STEM Complex project. The building's updated interior will showcase glass walls, collaborative research and teaching spaces, and open study areas for students — the kinds of improvements that have led to steady increases in student participation in intensive faculty-mentored research, says School of Engineering Dean Steven Schreiner. Boeing GE Healthcare Keystone Engineering Lockheed Martin PSE&G Spotify Making a Splash School of Engineering students participated in the SOLAR SPLASH® competition — the world championship of intercollegiate solar and electric boating — in Springfield, Ohio, in June. TCNJ's team won the Sportsmanship Award, earned fifth place in Technical Report, and ranked in the top 10 overall. FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS Vedrana Krstic, associate professor of civil engineering, received the 2019 Educator of the Year award from the Central Jersey Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Karen Yan is working to manufacture artificial skin. The biomedical and mechanical engineering professor will spend a year in China perfecting a new method based on 3D printing that will allow researchers to better mimic the environment of native tissues.
