43 FALL 2019 '60s and '70s Thomas G. Fox '64 earned the 2019 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award as a leader in academic administration and health care. Fox retired as senior vice president of advancement at the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, in 2017. He also worked at Florida Institute of Technology, Wheeling Jesuit University, and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Barry Lefkowitz '66 won a 2019 NJBIZ Icon Award. This award recognizes New Jersey business leaders over the age of 60 for their success and leadership in their chosen fields. Rose Mary Sheldon '69 retired as professor emerita from the Virginia Military Institute where she held the Henry King Burgwyn, Jr. Chair in Military History. Patricia Salinowicz '72 is an English enrichment teacher at JEI Learning Center in Monroe, New Jersey. She published her first children's book, Who Is Henry Quills?, about the adventures of a lovable hedgehog. Rosalie Viscomi '75 retired from a 25-year career as an ESL teacher. She spent the past 17 years in the Phillipsburg (New Jersey) School District. Edward Thomas '76 was inducted into the Communication Electronic Command Hall of Fame this spring, which honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the U.S. Army. Thomas served as deputy to the commanding general, the highest-ranking civilian position in the command. Deborah Hassler '78 wed Don McCutcheon on June 2, 2018. '80s and '90s John Castaldo '82 retired from TCNJ after 25 years of service. He most recently served as the executive director of alumni engagement. Andy Polansky '83 won the 2019 Institute for Public Relations Alexander Hamilton Medal for Lifetime Achievement for his leadership and effective use of public relations. Polansky is CEO of Constituency Management Group and executive chairman of Weber Shandwick. Melanie Balcomb '84 is senior associate head coach for the Purdue University women's basketball team. Independent recording artist Jaculin H. Jones '86 released a solo single, "Urgency," in January. In the spring, she self-published a memoir, And It Is So: The Power of His Promise, an account of her journey of healing after serious health challenges. Michael Kelly '88 was appointed to the board of directors of ARS Pharmaceuticals, Inc. The Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey named Ana Montero '89 its 2019 Nonprofit Leader of the Year. As chief recovery executive officer with the American Red Cross, Montero oversees the Hurricane Maria Long Term Recovery Program in Puerto Rico. Virginia McDermott '91 serves as dean of Nido R. Qubein School of Communication at High Point University in High Point, North Carolina. Lawrence O'Brien '91 is an associate partner at PeopleSurge, a business strategy company. Bernards Township (New Jersey) deputy police chief Michael Vorhees '92 retired after 26 years of service. Kimberly D. Buehler '93 was promoted to the Senior Executive Service as the U.S. Army's Director for Small Business Programs. Shawn Rogers '93, Jodi O'Donnell-Ames '88, Kelsey VanGelder '11, and Liam Gallagher '08 won leadership awards from the TCNJ Alumni Association during Alumni Weekend 2019. Lillian Grescavage Stulich '93 published the children's book, Host a Little Ghost and the Story of the Mystical Mums. A sixth-grade social studies teacher in Toms River (New Jersey) Regional Schools, Stulich was inspired by her class' community spirit after Superstorm Sandy. Shannon Murphy Cornelius '94 is assistant county prosecutor for the County of Gloucester, New Jersey. Laurel Whitney '94 is CFO and co-founder of PUSH Beverages. PUSH was one of four New Jersey companies to receive the 2019 Association for Corporate Growth New Jersey's Corporate Growth Award.
