17 2019 CONFERENCE FOR UNDERGRADUATE WOMEN IN PHYSICS Workshop Descriptions LGBTQ+ Roundtable Robin Bjorkquist, PhD, Cornell University Monica Plisch, PhD, Director of Education and Diversity, American Physical Society Join us for a discussion session focused on LGBTQ+ issues in physics. We will discuss our experiences as LGBTQ+ people in physics, resources and opportunities for students, as well as changes we would like to see at our universities and in the field as a whole. Everyone is welcome to attend the session, including allies! Setting Yourself Up for Success: A Journey from College to Industry Smruti Dance, PhD, Section Head of Performance Fluids, Corporate Strategic Research, ExxonMobil Kathleen Edwards, PhD, Research Technician Group Head, Corporate Strategic Research, ExxonMobil A discussion on pursuing a career in the sciences and managing transitions. We will go through similarities, differences, and important considerations when thinking about the following transitions: high school to undergraduate vs. undergraduate to graduate school and undergraduate to workforce vs. graduate school to workforce. Key topics include 1) how to create and maximize opportunities and choices; and 2) what questions should I ask myself and others at each of these transitions.
