49 SPRING 2018 National Association of Elementary School Principals named Margaret M. Haas Gunderson '77, MEd '80 a National Distinguished Principal. Winners are nominated by their peers, and one principal from each state is chosen. Gunderson is principal of Millennium Middle School in Seminole County, Florida. '80s and '90s Steinert High School in Hamilton, New Jersey, inducted Mary Ann Tarr '80 into its Athletics Hall of Fame. Tarr helped establish the school's Hall of Fame in 2005. Tom Gray '81 published Pedaling, a book about his 50-day, cross-country bicycle trip from Los Angeles to Boston. Jeff Sims '82 retired as a federal agent with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service after 27 years. During his career, Sims investigated fraud, robberies, and assaults in Pittsburgh, Newark (New Jersey), and Philadelphia. Dawn Smith '87 was named 2018 Educator of the Year at Herma Simmons Elementary School in Clayton, New Jersey. '60s and '70s Nick and Becky Alise '67, who were seniors at TCNJ when they married, celebrated their 50th anniversary in November 2017. They own and manage Primerica, a financial services business in Boynton Beach, Florida. Carolyn Hoffman Benkowitz '68 is the assistant director of Georgia Sensation Chorus in Johns Creek, Georgia. The chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organization of women who sing barbershop harmony. John Ricci '72 retired as business administrator for Hamilton Township (New Jersey.) He held the post for 20 years. Ocean Township (New Jersey) School District Board of Education elected Evelyn McDowell '75 as vice president for 2018. Gordon Fratz '76 retired from the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratories in January 2017. He was the supervisor of the rabies testing unit for 40 years. Peter A. Kernast Jr. '76, retired from a 40-year career as a process development chemist. He spent 26 years at American Cyanamid Company and 14 at Hovione. alumni.tcnj.edu Michelle Krynicky '03 and husband, James: a daughter, Emma Faith, on Aug. 19. Emma joins big sister, Olivia, 4.
