TALK UP IF IT'S BROKEN, FIX IT I faithfully read every issue of TCNJ Magazine as soon as I receive it, but I rarely see any info about my classmates. So here's a photo of three old gals who recently met for lunch. MINERVA WARD '47 From left: Class of 1947 members Minerva (Owen) Ward, Sue (Ciocco) Girardi, Ann (Digangi) Jawidzik Editor's note: Take Minerva's lead and send get-together photos to magazine@tcnj.edu for possible publication in upcoming Class Notes. TRAILBLAZER I visited the beautiful TCNJ campus in September for the first time in decades. I was stunned to discover that the nature trail I built in 1974 in the woods behind Kendall Hall is still there! The routing through the woods, the points of interest, and even a bench at the halfway point to rest are all the same after 43 years. With a $300 budget, Edward Rockel, professor emeritus of ecology, and I worked side by side with picks and shovels to create the path. I later learned that he protected that space from being cleared for new buildings. I hope the trail continues to be preserved for students in future generations. Wow. DAVID ECKER '76 SOCIAL LIFE I love tcnj because when you make eye contact with someone everyone smiles at you and everyone is friendly and I never wanna graduate. @trishflorio THE SCHOOL OF SCIENCE ASKS How did the Spanish flu aect your family? About one-third of people worldwide in 1918 were infected with the Spanish flu and some 675,000 Americans died. The School of Science invites you to share your family's story via text, audio, or video here: tcnj.edu/spanishflu. These oral histories will be included in a TCNJ exhibit in October 2018. David Ecker WHAT'S THE B.I.G. DEAL? I have a complaint about your cover (Fall 2017) that refers to Dr. Gitenstein as "Our Notorious R.B.G." I believe it is a comparison to rap artist Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smalls, who was shot in a gang violence attack and whose lyrics are filthy and disgusting. The college should really be ashamed of itself for publishing some- thing like that. I am proud to have my daughters attend TCNJ. I am not proud of the cover of your magazine. VOICEMAIL FROM ANONYMOUS CALLER Editor's note: President Gitenstein was honored and delighted to be compared to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
