37 achievements that at first seemed unimaginable. Leo Kelly '97 was the donor who on January 31, 2017, pushed the campaign past its original goal of $40 million, five months ahead of schedule. His $100,000 gift will provide needed scholarship support for talented students from Allentown, Bordentown, and Trenton, New Jersey. On February 15, the college's board of trustees upped the ante by issuing the 5-in-5 challenge. In accepting, President Gitenstein pledged to raise an additional $5 million in the five remaining months of the campaign. Once again, the community rallied. On May 24, Gloria Weissbart ,78 completed the challenge with a gift to provide scholarship support in the School of Business. But in true TCNJ spirit, campaign co-chairs Pelson and Silk vowed to maintain the momentum through the final five weeks of the campaign to see how high we could push the total. By the time the final gifts were counted later that summer, The Campaign for TCNJ had raised $47,547,832. On August 25, TCNJ announced a yearlong fundraising effort in tribute to the historic presidency of R. Barbara Gitenstein, which is set to end with her retirement on June 30. The effort has been dubbed 18.19.20 as a nod to its academic year '18 time frame, the 19-plus years of Gitenstein's tenure, and the desire to further strengthen the college for 2020 and beyond. The goal is to raise $7 million. "This is a fitting way to honor the legacy of a truly outstanding leader and to ensure the continued excellence of this institution that she and we care about so deeply," said Jorge A. Caballero, chair of TCNJ's Board of Trustees. "We will be forever grateful to her for her almost two decades of leadership." Vice President for College Advancement John Donohue noted that the successful completion of the 18.19.20 initiative, when combined with the near $48 million raised through The Campaign for TCNJ, will push Gitenstein's campaign fundraising total to another symbolically significant number. "In 2018, we should top $55 million, which couldn't be more appropriate," he said. "1855 is the year our college was founded." ENCORE Tom Arlotto '75 established a fund to support global engagement.
