TALK UP COMMENTS STACK UP During finals week my freshman year, my friend and I entered a study room in the library (Up Front, Spring 2017) prepared to stay for days, with our books, pillows, blankets, and food. Campus police kicked us out the next morning, informing us we weren't allowed to sleep there. JAY HINGU '19 My boyfriend and I love to take study breaks and sneak around the library to slip in a kiss or two. JAMIE ALLEN '20 Thanks for the great magazine and interesting articles. My senior year, my boyfriend and I spent Sunday evenings in Roscoe L. West Library unearthing treasures we'd check out and take home for the week. I returned as an alum to read magazines in the cozy periodical area. I love how well-planned the new library is but do miss the ambience, feel, and even the scent of the old building. JENNIFER MONAHAN WINBERRY '90 Assistant library director Hunterdon County (New Jersey) Library SUPREME CONNECTION Kudos to writer Kevin Coyne and photographer Mike Morgan for a wonderful story about the Alito family (Supreme Son, Spring 2017). As kids, my father, Maxwell Stern '37, and Mr. Alito '35 were in the same homeroom when they attended Junior #4 in Trenton, and as adults, they both taught at that school. I have shared several pictures with Alito's son, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito Jr. He has been gracious to send letters in response, all of which I cherish deeply. PHYLLIS E. STERN '67 KARRAS REMEMBERED Thank you, professor emeritus Daniel Crofts, for your tribute to history professor John Karras (Winter 2017, I had the Karras experience in the late '60s, taking two of his Rome courses. I went on to teach high school history for 35 years and incorporated many of his tales and anecdotes into my lessons. RIP, John. HARRY NOBLE '70, MA '72 EDITOR'S NOTES Congrats to Joe Cirillo '18 (How I Got Here, Spring 2017) for being named the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year. A great reason to crunch crickets: Tasting the Tree of Life, featured in "Yum!?" (Spring 2017), won Food Management Magazine's Best Special Event. 15 14 SPRING 2017 Yum!? The day the dining hall went wild to prove a point about what you pile on your plate. words CHRISTOPHER HANN images LAUREN H. ADAMS Tree of Life recipes on page 38 Crunchy "I would snack on them if I had a little bag of crickets," said Jillian Farley '20. PROPS TO US TCNJ Magazine has won the 2017 Robert F. Sibley Award for Magazine of the Year from the Washington, D.C.-based Council for Advancement and Support of Education. A national honor awarded to a university magazine, the Sibley is synonymous with editorial excellence. Judges remarked that the magazine feels "very welcoming " and has "a sense of home." A tip of the hat is due to the TCNJ community for being so story-worthy.
