Talk Up INSIDERS/OUTSIDERS With the recent immigration/travel ban on seven countries, including Syria, as well as ongoing hateful rhetoric regarding Mexicans and other immigrants, I was heartened to see stories that humanize the struggles of these populations ["This is Abrar Ebady" and "Written on the Bones," Winter 2017]. Too often, refugees and immigrants are spoken about in ways that reinforce their otherness. Instead, your stories inspire empathy and remind us that, like all of us, refugees and immigrants are just trying to survive and create better, safer, healthier lives. Thank you for using your voice to tell these kinds of stories. STEPHANIE WALLACE '12 This is the first time I am writing to say thank you. Your latest publication stayed on our tabletop because my husband and I found the article "This is Abrar Ebady" to be gripping and so timely. The writing, the photographs, so touching — how can one's heart not be sensitized to the suffering of the Syrian people? Please continue to include such articles of social consciousness lest our country lose its heart. GRACE MARIE GERBER MA '75 TCNJ'S SOCIAL LIFE tarantino_nick i chose tcnj for the beautiful sunsets at the end of a crazy day AJ@AJ_LoPresti21 I love the sound of overdue construction in the morning #TCNJ If I don't get into @tcnj for grad school I will cryyyyy @angelsbOne THANK YOU @TCNJ FOR ACCEPTING ME INTO YOUR GRADUATE COUNSELING PROGRAM. I LOVE YOU — YOU'RE THE BEST SCHOOL EVER! @angelsbOne Super happy to say I was accepted into @tcnj and offered a scholarship. @gabby_barth Our Bad Sorry! We misspelled author Christopher Brinton's '11 name [Brag Board, Winter 2017]. But at least it gives us a second chance to plug his new book The Power of Networks: Six Principles That Connect Our Lives. COUSINS CONNECTED! When I read about the Gellman family farm I freaked out because my father and grandparents also lived on a farm in Englishtown, New Jersey ["Field of Dreams," Winter 2017]. I sent the article to my relatives to find out if they knew anyone referenced. Turns out, Gary's grandfather, Meyer, was my great-grandfather's brother, making Gary and me cousins. Gary and I met in February, which wouldn't have happened without TCNJ Magazine. MICHAEL GELLMAN '00 Cousins Gary Gellman '89 (left) and Michael Gellman '00 meet for the first time in Campus Town.
