24 STUDENT AFFAIRS Built for Fitness Thrive Wellness Expo Zen massages, healthy cooking demonstrations, and fitness programming were just some of the highlights for the more than 400 student, faculty, and staff attendees at this year's Thrive Wellness Expo in March. TCNJ Cares Week Student-led TCNJ Cares Week, now in its second year, once again raised awareness campuswide about mental health issues and suicide prevention. Centered around the theme of "Hope and Positivity," the first week of May was packed with innovative programming for students, including the poignant "In Their Shoes" event, where shoes representing the number of college students nationwide struggling with depression or thoughts of suicide were displayed on the lawn at Green Hall to bring attention to mental health issues. Lion's House Recovery Housing TCNJ joined just 18 percent of colleges and universities nationwide offering recovery housing for students when it opened Lion's House this year, an independent living facility for students dealing with drug or alcohol addiction. This dedicated housing option, funded through a grant from the New Jersey Department of Human Services, provides a sanctuary for students in recovery, and is but one component of the college's ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive recovery and substance-abuse support for its students. HEALTHY CAMPUS An all too often overlooked cornerstone of student success is health and wellness. This year, the college enhanced its efforts to encourage healthy choices through a number of targeted initiatives. Students are able to recharge in a new 12,000-square-foot fitness center, which opened in Campus Town last September. The facility houses state-of-the-art resistance training and cardiovascular equipment, free weights, and a large synergy area, perfect for abdominal workouts, stretching, kettlebell training, and other exercises.
