CALEA (pronounced Cali, like the state)
STILES-SCHATZ, who picked up a camera for
the first time junior year while studying in
Barcelona, won TCNJ's Center for Global
Engagement's 2016 photo contest. A finance
major and now a wealth management advisor in
North Jersey, she's open to paid trips to
photograph other parts of the planet.

permanently living on water, citizens of no country,
who survive through tourism, fishing, and the
support of various governments.
It was a 100-degree day when we visited a Burmese
temple in Bagan. One of the ladies outside put
thanaka, tree-bark sunscreen, on us. Then, with a
comb, she made a pattern on our cheeks.
This was a journey I will never take for granted.
We rose for sunrise in the
Land of a Thousand Temples.
