8 LEADERSHIP Our belief is that TCNJ students will positively impact the world, and our charge is to prepare them for current and future leadership roles. Meaningful opportunities outside of the classroom enable TCNJ students to learn about themselves and others in a challenging and supportive environment. Spearheaded by the Division of Student Affairs, the comprehensive leadership program achieved major milestones during the past year: TCNJ LEADERSHAPE INSTITUTE Fifty-nine students participated in the inaugural TCNJ LeaderShape Institute, a nationally recognized six-day experience through which students learn to lead with integrity and "have a healthy disregard for the impossible." Ninety-eight percent of student participants agreed that the institute was a valuable experience in developing their capacity to lead. OPERATION LEAD Thirty-one incoming students and five upperclass student facilitators participated in the newly launched Operation LEAD, a four-day leadership retreat preceding Welcome Week through which students explored their leadership potential and strengthened their confidence as they prepare to be leaders on campus and beyond. LIONS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE Forty first- and second-year students and 10 mentors participated in the Lions Leadership Institute, now in its second year. Participants recognized and developed their leadership potential through interactive and reflective activities. This year, students developed social change projects that will assist with Civility Week, result in changes to Welcome Week, and engender pride on campus. TCNJ STRIVES TO: shape and inspire leaders who make a positive difference foster a holistically healthy and well student body facilitate intentional and meaningful learning experiences instill a sense of pride, tradition, and community
