2 QUICK TAKES We celebrate another outstanding year capped with truly amazing moments. Along with our extraordinary student and faculty achievements, community engagement near and far, further strides toward a more inclusive community, and a history-making campaign kickoff, here are some other notable highlights: 2014 SEPTEMBER 24 OCTOBER 2 OCTOBER 8 OCTOBER 16 OCTOBER 22 DECEMBER 4 Songstress SARAH DASH, who in 1975 topped the charts with "Lady Marmalade," appears as part of TCNJ's Trenton Makes Music series. "I do believe in this city," she said of her hometown. "[W]e have a lot to offer." Ambassador JIMMY KOLKER, the U.S. government's point person on the African Ebola crisis, assuages fears of a possible outbreak here. "You're much more likely to be in a traffic accident than to be affected by Ebola," he said. Assemblywoman BONNIE WATSON COLEMAN and ALIETA ECK face off in Mayo Concert Hall in their only debate in the race to replace retiring Congressman Rush Holt. Political science professor BRIAN POTTER moderates. NOVEMBER 12 Princeton Professor and former Clinton advisor ALAN BLINDER examines the 2008 financial crisis, the government's response, and the public's reaction as the School of Business 2014 Distinguished Speaker. Scrubs star and Garden State filmmaker ZACH BRAFF tells students about the power of persistence in achieving success. "The music is so subversive," says Prof. Jiayan Mi, who notes that the band uses innuendo as a way around government censors. Department of Human Services Commissioner JENNIFER VELEZ visits campus to award a $245,000 grant that TCNJ will use to create special housing for students recovering from alcohol and drug addictions.
