22 GIVING HIGHLIGHTS Last year, the TCNJ Foundation provided $2.5 million in scholarships to 271 deserving students. That number will certainly grow in coming years thanks to dozens of donors—individuals and foundations —who made gifts this year in support of the campaign's largest goal: student support. To date, the foundation has raised 85 percent of our $20 million goal. Among the highlights: TCNJ has been named the sole beneficiary of THE HELENE FULD CHARITABLE TRUST, valued at $6.6 million. This permanent endowment will provide scholarship support in perpetuity to undergraduate nursing students as they work to complete their BSN degrees. Last year, 34 nursing students benefited from the scholarship. PATRICIA '66 AND MICHAEL BUSK have committed $1 million to establish The Julia Maziarz Fund in Support of The School of Education to aid students from urban settings who wish to pursue a teaching degree and return to work in their home cities. The fund, named in honor of Patricia's mother, will also be used to support a faculty member who will recruit and mentor students benefiting from the scholarship. The Busks considered several schools for this gift before selecting TCNJ. "As with any other investment, we wanted something that produces, that is effective," said Patricia. "TCNJ clearly is one of those investments." Fifty high school students of modest means will be able to pursue a college education at TCNJ at no cost, thanks to $1 million in support from the GIVE SOMETHING BACK FOUNDATION. In announcing the gift, ROBERT CARR, GSBF's founder, said the college was a perfect fit because "TCNJ shares our mission of helping students realize their full potential." Students supported by the GSBF are identified in ninth grade and assigned a mentor who advises them and helps prepare them to succeed in college. Once in college, this program is designed to graduate students in four years free of debt. The first students are expected to enroll at TCNJ in the fall of 2019. SUSANNE SVIZENY '79 has maintained close ties with her alma mater, serving on the Foundation Board of Directors for nine years and the TCNJ Board of Trustees since 2004. This year she demonstrated another level of leadership and support to the college as a lead donor to The Campaign for TCNJ. Her gift of $50,000 endowed a scholarship to support a young woman with high academic achievement and unmet need entering the School of Business. Once selected, the recipient is eligible to receive the scholarship for up to four academic years, provided she remains enrolled full time and in good academic standing. ALLEN AND JUDY SILK are creating a $100,000 scholarship fund to support students who transfer to TCNJ. Allen, a TCNJ supporter and co-chair of The Campaign for TCNJ, met his beneficiary—Erica Wisk, a special education and psychology major who transferred to TCNJ after earning her associate's degree at a community college—at the President's Reception for Scholars and Donors on April 25. "Erica is an amazing young woman with a bright future ahead of her," he said. "She is exactly the kind of student we want here at TCNJ." Nearly two dozen rising seniors from Newark, Irvington, Orange, East Orange, and other Essex County high schools got their first taste of college this summer, thanks to the COOPERMAN COLLEGE SCHOLARS PROGRAM. The students spent three weeks on campus, living in residence halls with TCNJ student mentors and taking classes. Those who decide to apply to TCNJ will receive application preparedness support as well as support in helping to complete required financial aid information. Those who enroll will receive a four-year scholarship from CCSP, which will pay SUPPORTING STUDENTS
