15 OVERCOMING ADVERSITY "Believe it or not, I don't like talking in front of a crowd. It's one of my biggest fears," admitted RJ Mitte, the screen actor best known for his role as Walter White Jr. on AMC's hit series Breaking Bad. Mitte, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was a toddler, spoke to a crowd of TCNJ students on April 9, urging them not to be manipulated by fear, and to look for ways to turn adversity into strength—even opportunity. "I wouldn't have had the knowledge to bring to my character on Breaking Bad without this disability," he said. LAVENDER GRADUATION: TCNJ celebrated the achievements of 16 LGBTQ and ally students in the college's first Lavender Graduation. TCNJ joins a growing number of schools nationally who are holding these special ceremonies to recognize the achievements and contributions of LGBTQ students of all races and ethnicities, leaving them with a positive last experience at the institution and encouraging them to become involved alumni and mentors for current students. ENGENDERING GENDER AND IDENTITY AWARENESS: The School of Education held a series of successful workshops for future educators aimed at helping them recognize and respond to the issues LGBTQ youth might be bringing with them to the classroom. "It's very hard for students to learn if they have all these other things going on," Megan Osika '15, the workshop's organizer, told The Times of Trenton. DIVERSE DINING: Dining Services partnered with student groups, schools, and administrative offices to celebrate our diverse world through food. Fall and spring each featured a Unity Week of culturally themed lunches, as well as dinners to celebrate Diwali and Black History Month. More than 3,000 attendees enjoyed the Hispanic Heritage Month campuswide dinner. IN BRIEF Enrollment data is fall 2015. Employment data is fall 2014, the most current available.
