d e a R F R i e n d S , I am so very proud of the significant accomplishments made this past academic year by our community. ey serve as a cornerstone upon which we will continue to build a successful tCnJ for the future. ese four core attributes will be our focus as we move ahead: Inclusive Community: our circle must be broad and inviting, challenging discrimination that seeks to destroy while encouraging the type of discrimination that is the result of an inquisitive mind. learning environment: We need faculty, students, and staff capable of challenging each other and themselves to transform their world and their disciplines, who reject easy answers to complex problems, and who respect each other for their talents and their differences. global Perspective: ere are deep and divisive struggles taking place today at home and around the globe. We must undertake uncomfortable conversations, acknowledge that our solutions to these very complex problems may differ, and do so in a way that promotes productive discourse. Assessment: We must be guided by true and complex measures of how effective we are at what we aim to do. education isn't something that is "done" to someone, but rather it is the transformative experience of an entire group—where each person's work and talent are integral to the success of the whole. our value lies in this transformation, and my hope is that these attributes will spark a perpetual cycle: people creating a community which in turn transforms people who will transform their community, and so on. ere is a powerful alchemy that can be created with the right people, the right support structures, the right values, and the right spaces. tCnJ will be that community. I look forward to watching it unfold. Sincerely, R. Barbara Gitenstein President Our significant accomplishments serve as a cornerstone upon which to build for the future.
