For the Alfred Harcourt Foundation, investing—in the young people chosen as ellen Knowles Harcourt Scholars—is what they do best. e foundation that prides itself on the personal connections it makes with each student has just topped $2 million in cumulative giving to tCnJ scholars—$236,000, which supported 30 scholars, in FY13 alone. For the last 13 years, the Alfred Harcourt Foundation has provided scholarships to economically disadvantaged students interested in public service careers— students who, given the chance, have great potential to succeed in their lives and make valuable contributions to society. Students like Sade Baker, Vianna Fagel, Anthony Grullon, and Anna poruks. each ellen Knowles Harcourt Scholar receives $8,000 a year for four years, as well as access to a built-in support system that helps them thrive in college. e goal for all: to better their lives by receiving a college education, and then pay it forward. l e g a c Y l a W In 1995, Betsy Ross Brooks '49 established the Jeffrey R. Ralston Foundation to honor her son, a law enforcement officer in Monmouth County, new Jersey, who died the previous year. Her purpose was solely to provide assistance to criminology students with academic promise and financial need, which it has done for many years since through the Jeffrey R. Ralston Scholarship and other criminology programs. During FY13, the Ralston Foundation gifted $95,000 to fund 12 tCnJ criminology scholarships. vianna Fagel '13 Mathematics and Statistics "When I think back to where I was, I wasn't happy. I had no hope of going to college. And now I'm a very happy person. I had a wonderful four years here." I want to do something great with my life."
