THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY Graphic Identity Standards Guide | 16 IDENTITY APPLIED Merchandise When considering which item you might want to produce, take into consideration the colors available and the size of the imprint area. Color Whenever possible, choose an item that is consistent with the college's official colors — an exact match may not be possible, but look for colors that are similar, such as navy blue, gold, and yellow. If you want to use one of the official colors as your imprint color, choose an item that will provide a good contrasting background color for the imprint. Imprints with blue or black type should be used only on lighter backgrounds such as white, off-white, light gray, beige, and yellow. Imprints with white type should be used only on darker backgrounds such as navy blue, black, and dark gray. Blue type wordmark on light (yellow) background Full color, white type logo on dark (navy blue) background Blue type logo on light (white) background White type logo on dark (brown) background Horizontal logo Vertical logo Square wordmark Horizontal wordmark Size Find the vendor's specifications (imprint size) for the item you would like to produce and match the shape to the logo orientation that fits best. For example, the horizontal logo will work best in a horizontal rectangular space; the vertical logo will work best in a vertical rectangular space; and the compact logo works best in a square space. If size dictates, or if a vendor tells you they cannot print the detail of the shield portion of the logo, a wordmark would be a better option to consider. Some items, such as pens and lanyards, have an imprint area that's too small to use any of the college's official marks. In these instances, you can use plain text to write out the initials or name of the college or your unit. Garamond is a good font option, but not mandated.
