THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY Graphic Identity Standards Guide | 15 IDENTITY APPLIED Apparel and merchandise Apparel and merchandise displaying the college logo are permissible when produced to conform to TCNJ graphic standards as outlined in this guide. Use must be consistent with the college's mission and values. Design approval is required for all TCNJ-branded merchandise items, including those used for events, promotion, fundraising, recruitment, and marketing. DESIGN GUIDELINES Apparel worn in an official capacity Description • Goal: to project the college's professionalism, authority, and formal identity. This apparel acts as a uniform or formal representation of the institution • Target Audience: external stakeholders (e.g., prospective students and their families, donors, media, government officials) and formal internal events • Purpose: worn when the individual's role formally represents the college or a specific department/office to an outside audience or formal internal audience Guidelines Must conform to TCNJ graphic standards as outlined in this guide. This includes the use of official logos, fonts, and the primary color palette. Recommended fabric colors are navy, gold, or a neutral color (such as white, light grey, off-white, or khaki). Apparel for informal purposes and school spirit Description • Goal: to foster internal morale, school pride, and a sense of community. This apparel is less formal and more about emotional connection and loyalty • Target Audience: students, faculty, and staff • Purpose: Primarily for internal or casual use; worn for leisure, team-building, extracurricular events, or casual/everyday wear where the primary goal is not formal representation Guidelines Does not need to use official marks or conform to TCNJ graphic standards. However, if the design includes the college's name in any form, the context in which it is used must be consistent with the college's mission and values. If an official mark or logo — such as the spirit mark, which is a great option for these informal items — is used, all TCNJ graphic standards must be followed.
