KATHRYN RATHKE Remembrance James Boatwright Director, Educational Opportunity Fund Program "You are always interviewing." Those were the first motivational words James Boatwright said to me, and to this day, I remain aware of how I present myself. When I met Boatwright in June 1997, he had already understood who I was and what I stood for. More importantly, he had already developed a formula for my success. I'm certain that the thousands of other students he influenced here at the college felt the same way. To echo the words of Charlena Barnes '02, "Mr. Boatwright was able to introduce me to myself." This giant of a man dedicated his life to championing others, and our persever- ance and success became the fuel that kept him going. There was love, purpose, support, motivation, and, when necessary, correction. Boatwright insisted there was always more work to be done. It is because of him that I continue to write my own story. Everything I am, and everything I aspire to be professionally, stands upon his shoulders. A servant-leader, an advocate, a social justice warrior ahead of his time — Boatwright's legacy will continue to live on through those of us who were touched by his genuine care and concern. — Jamal Johnson '01, associate director for mentoring, retention, and success programs at TCNJ and proud EOF alumnus
