2 The College of New Jersey Magazine TALK UP MEANINGFUL MENTORSHIPS Absolutely love that TCNJ is highlighting first generation college stories ("A perfect pairing," winter 2023). As a first gen from Perth Amboy, New Jersey, I understand the journey of navigating through the ecosystem, and the experience is very humbling and powerful. KATHERINE STAMPER '99 I'm so proud to not only be a TCNJ alumni, but to also have had the pleasure of teaching both these wonderful first gen students, Kiara Fernandez '24 and Jean Carlos Moreno '26. ROSALIE MORILLO '09 was presented that I was able to absorb all the information — something I was not able to do in any other class. ANNE LEWIS '79 It's been almost 50 years, and I still remember Professor Liddie and his "best ever" graduate course, Principles of Literary Criticism. He guided us through the various approaches to analyze literature. I have kept the class textbook and a thick anthology of stories, plays, and poems. What I learned made me not only a better English teacher, but also a more insightful, appreciative lifetime reader. MICHAEL LURSKI MEd '78 College Algebra was my very first class at TSC and I was comfortable from the get-go. William Hausdoerffer '36 was the best math teacher I have ever had. I graduated with a degree in accounting. GABBY POULIN PARSEGHIAN '80 I had a Hitchcock film class where we learned about his filmmaking style and the symbolism in his movies. We watched several Hitchcock films throughout the semester, and Vertigo remains one of my all-time favorites. JENNIFER GANDOLFO '97 Industrial/Organizational Psychology with Jason Dahling was not a class I wanted to take because I didn't know what it was. It was the only 200-level psych course that fit into my schedule that semester. It turned out to be one of the best courses in my undergraduate career. I/O Psychology provided insight into job-related questions such as: What is deviant behavior in the workplace and why does it happen? Why doesn't salary alone bring job satisfaction? Dahling 's I/O Psychology class had the answers. JANIKA BERRIDGE '13 Kiara Fernandez and Jean Carlos Moreno A CLASS ABOVE My favorite class at TSC was Abnormal Psychology ("Of course!," winter 2023). I was absolutely spellbound by the lectures. When it came time for the final exam, I realized that I had taken virtually no notes. I aced it because the content was so compelling in the way it
