It IS a meteorite When a rock-like object crashed through the roof of a home in Titusville, New Jersey in May, TCNJ physics professors were called on to confirm what the object was. The result: a meteorite that is more than 4 billion years old. See the details here: tcnj.edu/meteorite. 6. A couple of Washington bigwigs International studies student Nancy Bowne '23 and bio professor Leeann Thornton both took trips to the White House this year. Bowne, who visited as part of World College Radio Day, met with Vice President Kamala Harris and interviewed chiefs of staff and POTUS policy advisors. Thornton ran an "EGGucation" booth about plants as part of the annual White House Easter Egg Roll festivities. 7. Puzzle peace School of Education Dean Tabitha Dell'Angelo placed a series of puzzles on a lobby table outside of her office this spring. "I'm a big advocate for play as a way to manage stress," she says. "Sure enough, students and staff worked on them. It became this fun, collaborative project." Battle of the broadcasts The McCarthy family has a major league dilemma when it comes to the Broadway vs. Broad Street baseball rivalry. This season, Pat McCarthy '17 hosts the WCBS radio pre- and postgame shows for the New York Mets, while his dad, Tom McCarthy '90, continues his duties as television voice for the Philadelphia Phillies. 10. Remembering her roots Yale University hired Shirley Wang '17 as an assistant professor of psychology. In announcing her position, Wang tweeted her thanks to TCNJ profs: "John Ruscio, Ashley Borders, and Joanna Herres. Thank you for believing in me from the earliest stages! I am endlessly grateful for the support I received (and skills I gained) @TCNJ." 8. A $30,000 idea Molly O'Brien '23 and Katrine Olsen '23 won the 2023 Mayo Business Plan Competition and the $30K that comes with first place for their plan to create a subscription-based wellness app for young women with chronic health conditions.
