2 The College of New Jersey Magazine TALK UP WE GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS Thank you, Kim Pearson, for facilitating the support of faculty and students for the Locust Hill project ("Honor guard," fall 2022). That support has resulted in multimedia presentations, archaeology collections, biological surveys, and historical studies. The hidden gem from these activities is the intersection between TCNJ and the surrounding community on a practical level. Go Lions! ALGIE THE GREAT FROM TRENTON STATE (ALGERNON WARD '87) Way to go, Algie. TSC/TCNJ and Trenton should be very proud of you and the work you have done! Keep moving onward and upward. BRUCE BROWN '77 A BRIDE-TO-BE IN BROWER I got engaged my last semester while at TSC. I promised myself I would hold off on any wedding planning until I finished all my exams. After the last one, I walked through the student center on my way to my apartment and made a brief but meaningful pit stop in the bookstore to buy my first bridal magazine. That's my favorite Brower Student Center memory (fall 2022). GINA DICINDIO '88 A THOUGHTFUL SEND-OFF Congratulations on your fine "Goodbye to a President" (fall 2022). Clayton Brower would want to be remembered as a friend of students. He was also a great leader. He listened and brought calm. There were protests over Vietnam and civil rights that often seemed about to boil over into violence. No student was injured, and no one was disciplined for protesting. He brought a sense of community that gradually replaced angry dissent, and the college began to move toward excellence. I am grateful to have known him. WADE CURRY, DEAN OF ARTS AND SCIENCES EMERITUS HOW DID YOU DO THAT? We were impressed with the interactive features of the honeysuckle article ("It's alive!" fall 2022). Such a great idea, and so well executed. We're curious about the technology behind it. Was this homegrown or a third party? WILLIAM ERSING '14 AND AMY SPEARS Editor's note: We let Chris Ault, professor of interactive multimedia, field this one. Here's what he said: "The code to display our original digital content in augmented reality was largely developed by TCNJ students and me, but we built our system on top of some existing software libraries. We kept coming across a library that seemed perfect for the project. Turns out, it was created by Craig Kapp '99, MS '03. Kapp worked for our instructional technology group, and I recall him telling students about augmented reality 15 years ago, long before it became mainstream. Kapp's support on the honeysuckle project was invaluable — he even adapted his software to accommodate some of our ideas." Algernon Ward '87
