2 The College of New Jersey Magazine TALK UP WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT? I sat next to Kenny Lucas ("It takes two," winter 2022) in Intro to Philosophy; therefore, I will accept credit for the twins' massive success. CHRIS ZIMBALDI '07 Junior year of college, Kenny Lucas told me he wanted to be a comedian, and I think I laughed at him. Joke's on me. KHUSHBU PATEL '07 Wow! Congratulations on a super cover supported by great content. It was wonderful to learn that the Lucas Brothers grew up in Newark, New Jersey. It is so important to reinforce that Black, inner-city residents are capable of achieving success. I, too, am from Newark and graduated with a degree in elementary education. As a result, I've had a successful career, including a management position on Wall Street. This type of coverage makes me smile. CAROL CHAPMAN WOOD '66 REMEMBERED FONDLY Mrs. Gwendolyn Jones (Remembrance, winter 2022) was a very special woman in my life, ever since I first met her as my advisor in 1970. She was also my junior professional experience supervisor. Her remembrance has brought me great comfort during this difficult time. KEITH FIGGS '74, MED '79 TCNJ MAGAZINE W I N T E R 2 0 2 2 inside DARK TIMES, BRIGHT IDEAS C-SUITE WOMEN THANKS, COACH MEET THE LUCAS BROTHERS Seriously funny guys Each Christmas, for 31 years, I received a card in my mailbox with a sticker that read, "Viva la JPE Jones Group." Inside was a personal greeting from the best professor, Gwendolyn Jones. She impacted my classroom every day of my career. She taught us all the importance of sharing children's literature with our students and how to bring stories to life. Thank you, Mrs. Jones, for bringing out the best in all of your students. Viva la JPE Jones Group. TERRI WELLS '90 HEARD IT HERE FIRST I was the station manager of WTSR and ran the contest to find the "Open Your Mind" slogan (x10, winter 2022). I still have the on-air audio recordings of the unveiling of the slogan during the housing lottery broadcast on March 26, 1996. I can confirm that the student who entered the winning slogan was Lucan Ingham '99, who at the time, lived in Travers 10. PAUL ALFIERI '97 THE MUSIC MAN What fun it was to open the cover of the magazine and see my friend, Roger McKinney, in a picture, not once but twice (Looking back, winter 2022). In the photo he is sitting at his desk with his beloved clarinet and working with reeds. He is also in the poster on the wall over his right shoulder. NANCY ERVIN '76
