Mental Health Services Decker Hall/Lower-Level (609) 771-2247 mhs@tcnj.edu http://mhs.tcnj.edu/ Mental Health Services (MHS) supports the academic goals of TCNJ by assisting students with personal challenges that interfere with their academic progress. We encourage students to attend to all of their developmental needs, whether they be academic, personal, physical, interpersonal, social, or spiritual. Toward this end, we provide an environment that is safe, confidential, and supportive. Our work is guided by the ethical and practice standards of our professions, with the goal of providing the best services possible. Teletherapy (group and individual) will continue to be the primary mode of service delivery for the spring semester. There will be no walk-in service during the spring semester. Please call MHS at (609) 771-2247 for initial screening and to determine next steps. Counseling Services Available MHS offers free, brief individual counseling and group counseling to TCNJ students. Services are confidential; no record of counseling ever appears on the student's academic record. Group Counseling – Many groups are offered each semester according to interest and student availability. Group attendance is not time-limited and is often considered the best modality for treating many issues facing college students. Workshops – Covering a variety of topics in brief duration and presented in a class-like format. Similar to group, attendance is not time-limited. Individual Counseling – Counseling in a short-term format for personal problems (e.g. homesickness, grief, depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflicts, identity issues, alcohol or substance abuse). Referrals - For those concerns not well matched to a brief model, referrals are provided to other campus resources, local community agencies, and private practitioners. Crisis Intervention and Evaluation – Available as needed. Peer Education - MHS Peer Educators are trained student advocates who are available for information, support, and referrals. They offer psycho-educational workshops and campus-wide programs on various health and wellness topics. Consultation and Training - Consultation and support for the psychological needs of the campus community. Training in MH awareness, C-SSRS, assessment and referral. 31
