32 The College of New Jersey Magazine AMBROSE ADEGBEGE Engineering He was always available. Professor Adegbege had always been one of my favorite professors, but he was especially great when we went online because of the coronavirus. Of all my courses, his class felt like it hadn't been affected by the switch to a virtual environment. He really kept us up to speed and kept challenging us. He was persistent and easy to understand. He was responsive and helpful via email, even when I asked questions that were for our lab, which he did not teach. — Eliza Sweet '21 STUART CARROL Education He insisted we call him Stuart. Without us realizing it, he set a powerful example with his name of how to treat everyone equally — regardless of social standing. — Kerri Lawler '02, MEd '05 MABEL BRAY (d. 1979) Music I was not afraid to tell a principal I could do a man's job. One of Mabel's favorite phrases was: "Always look like you are going someplace." As department head, she set an example for her women students. We were not afraid to apply for any job we wanted. I felt her influence when I interviewed for my first job as a high school band director. "What makes you think you can do a man's job?" the principal asked. I was not afraid to tell him that when he hired me I would show him. I got the job, and I did. I often wonder if it hadn't been for that red-haired lady at Trenton State, whether I would have had the courage to always look like I was going someplace. — Lois Neuwiesinger Harrison '51
