e College of New Jersey ANNUAL REPORT 2018–2019 Dear Friends, This fall marks the beginning of my sophomore year as president of The College of New Jersey. It follows a rewarding first year in which I deepened my connection to this community and witnessed firsthand the excellence for which it stands. I am energized by the abundant talent embodied by our students, faculty, and staff. This commitment to the highest quality is illustrated throughout the pages of this report. You see it reflected in our four-year graduation rate, which is seventh highest among the nation's public colleges and universities, and in the strength of our student outcomes. It is present in the accolades received, in the research conducted, and in the uplifting community we continue to build. By all accounts, TCNJ is thriving. However, we are not an institution that rests on its laurels. Instead, we continue to innovate in response to the changing landscape of higher education and social, economic, and political forces. In the past year, the college deepened its commitment to our core values by establishing the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Among the many positive steps we are taking, the college is currently searching for an inaugural vice president for equity and inclusion, who will be a critical voice and advocate for our goal of a truly inclusive community. Innovation took place across the campus with the introduction of new undergraduate majors and graduate programs. These include a Bachelor of Arts in world languages and linguistics, a five-year program in secondary education and special education, and master's programs in public health and business administration. In April, the college launched a major initiative to communicate the distinctive nature of a TCNJ education, one that is equal parts rigorous and supportive. Bright-yellow "High expectations? Say Hi to The College of New Jersey" billboards dotted the Garden State. Members of our on-campus community participated in a "TCNJ Says Hi" Instagram challenge through which we celebrated the special relationships among students, faculty, and staff that bring out the best in us. You could say that the year ended on a "Hi" note. As I enter my second year as president, know that TCNJ is looking to the future. We will tackle the hard work of planning with optimism, enthusiasm, and thoughtful consideration. Guided by our values and hallmark commitment to excellence, we will build on all that we have accomplished so that TCNJ remains at the vanguard of public higher education, both in New Jersey and beyond. Thank you for your continued support of The College of New Jersey. Sincerely, Kathryn A. Foster President
