4 The College of New Jersey Magazine TALK UP LIFE AND DEATH The article about the Codex Amiatinus ("Bible Story," Winter 2019) was intriguing. I also liked the philosophy article ("Future People, Dead People," Winter 2019), but I was prompted to write regarding Professor James Stacey Taylor's stance on organ donation. He suggests that it is moral to sell one's own kidney to pay for medical treatment for a seriously ill child. The pressure of having a sick child would cause someone to donate who may not otherwise be inclined to do so. It is not a neutral position from which a rational decision can be made. I believe it is not a direction that we as a society want to go regardless of the price of the organ. LYNN WADE '81 MORE DIGITAL, PLEASE THE CENTURY CLUB I am 100 years old. Despite the raggedy clothes ("We've got the look," Winter 2019) and the display of navels (Miss Decker must surely have done double flips), I think your magazine is terrific!! The article about the Amiatinus ("Bible Story," Winter 2019) blew my mind — or what's left of it. I hope the students appreciate Professor Chazelle and writer Liz Leyden. At 100, one has many regrets: I, being a better Latin student. If there are any more graduates of 1940, long may they wave. MAY "OL' MAY" HESTON HILTEBEITEL '40 I submit this letter to announce the following alumnae celebrated their 100th birthdays in 2018: Julia Hansell Davies on May 27, Agnes Van Orden Northrup on June 8, and me on November 28. We were all education majors. I kept in touch with several friends from the college and we had reunions at the beach for many years after graduation. BERNICE ALLEN DONINI '39 Editor's note: We are sorry to report that Davies will not celebrate her 101st birthday. She passed away in February 2019. THE BEDE GOES ON I read with interest Celia Chazelle's study of the Codex Amiatinus ("Bible Story," Winter 2019) and, particularly, its connection to the Venerable Bede, that great Saxon monk and historian. It is no accident that TCNJ's Catholic Campus Ministry Center is called Bede House. I lived there for six years, two as a student and four more as a Catholic campus minister. I am still in touch with the Bede House folks. Long may the memory of the Venerable Bede remain. PAUL C. CHRISTIAN '79 Put the mag online. Waste of paper. ANONYMOUS I just received my magazine and flipped through. I loved the "We've got the look" article. What an amazing diverse group! It would be great if the school's Instagram tied into the magazine articles to let alumni know when their peers or professors are featured. KARA O'ROURKE '07 Editor's note: Anonymous, you'll find the magazine at tcnjmagazine.com — then opt out of the print edition by emailing magazine@tcnj.edu. Kara, we took your suggestion.
