How I Got Here
ANGELA RAMBERT '20
Public health major finds
her groove in the spin cycle.
> I come from a big track family.
My older brother ran cross country and
distance. My dad and grandpa were
sprinters. My dad ran in college. He held
the 400-meter record at Middlebury
College in Vermont for a while.
> In seventh grade, I started as a
sprinter. But they had us try every event
to see what we were best at. I threw
the discus farther than anyone. So the
next year, I just did throws. When my
dad saw how good I was at the throwing
events, he was okay with me switching
from sprints. He was excited I found
something that I liked.
> There are five throwing events.
In high school I did shot put, discus,
and javelin. I didn't throw hammer and
weight until college.
> We got a new coach last year,
Coach T [Tilah Young]. She taught me
hammer and it became my best event,
so I was like, I will stick with it.
> People hear hammer and think of
the tool. But it's actually a metal ball
attached to a wire with a handle.
