Donald Klein, 1981–2018 Football Offensive Line Coach DONALD KLEIN was not the kind of coach who would just teach from the sidelines. "He got in there with the players, and let them try plays on him," says Rocky Hager, special teams coordinator for TCNJ football and longtime mentor and friend of Klein's. It was the style of coaching the Lions needed when they brought Klein onboard in 2017. "Players couldn't wait to be on the field with him, and his offensive lines were always getting better." On and off the field, Klein — who died in a car accident in October — knew how to connect with people. "Even back when he was a college player at Temple University, everyone wanted him to host the recruits. They knew if recruits hung out with Klein, they would sign with the team," says Hager. "He was so easy to talk with, and that was an endearing quality he continued to show throughout his life," says Hager. "If you walked away from Donny and didn't feel like a million bucks, something was off."
