James Forcina Hall Lab Beginning in 2014, The College of New Jersey began a comprehensive s tudy of our training facilities and dedicated monies to build a new Nursing Simulation Laboratory for TCNJ students. The result is a sophisticated learning environment covering 3,000 sq. feet which is dedicated to providing nursing students with the opportunity to experience patient care in a realistic setting providing a safe learning environment. Simulation is important to today's nursing curriculum for many reasons. These include: the need for a safe controlled tailored environment for learning and mistakes; a specific-standardized learning experience for all students; role practice; the ability to connect didactic to practice-helps identify curriculum gaps; for increased students self-confidence, judgment, clinical reasoning; to provide for assessment and evaluation of student; and to address some of the challenges of providing high quality clinical experiences. In the Forcina Simulation lab we are equipped with 2 exam rooms to simulate outpatient visits to ensure our simulation experiences are able to create safe and specialized spaces for all of our students to learn. SIMULATION LAB Paul Loser Hall Lab Paul Loser Hall houses two nursing laboratories. One focuses on the outpatient setting with examination tables and the open feel that can be used to teach beginning assessment skills to being a mock outpatient intake setting. The other nursing laboratory has 10 hospital beds, many high fidelity mannequins, medium fidelity mannequins and task trainers to provide the opportunity to develop clinical skills teaching and practice. This laboratory has a colorful mural painted by the art club at the college that helps to extend the view of the room. Both of these laboratory spaces are used for skills teaching and can also be used for simulation when needed. The use of professional simulated patients to help graduate students safely practice advanced history and physical exam skills can also be used in this space.
