The purpose of this program is to provide students with a special opportunity to gain hands -on experience in the field. Emphasis is placed on practical experience, complete immersion in a highly professional setting, participation, administration, and supervision by a credentialed professional. Interns are ment ored by t heir super vi sors to gain a deeper underst anding of the day-to-day and long term demands, challenges, and exper i ences of t he career. During the process, in addition to completing at least 450 internship hours, and attending professional conferences during the semester, students will be required to return to campus regularly for on-campus seminar meetings. The goal is deep, constructive reflection upon the nature of the positions the students are immersed in. The Health and Physical Education field experience are created to provide teaching planning and teaching ex perience in K -12 set tings. Ex periences take place in elementar y, secondary, and adapted physic al education, as well as in secondar y health education. Teaching candidates are placed in a variety of districts to provide a well-rounded education. Field and student teaching experiences typically take place within a 30 mile radius to the college.
