PROGRAMS OF STUDY Health and Physical Education - Teaching (HPET ) prep ares students to become Health and Physi cal Education Teachers in K-12 schools meeting all New Jersey state teacher education requirements. Practical classroom experience in school settings begins in the sophomore year and continues through the senior year with super vised student teac hing. Ma jors have t he oppor tunity to bec ome cer t if ied driver s e duc a t ion inst ructors, coaches, and other specif ied areas of Health and Physical Education Teaching. Health a nd E x e r ci se Sc i enc e ( H E S A ) prepares st udent s for a focused area of study in the applied sciences. The academic program concentrates on basic, applied physiology and kinesiology, biomechanics, nutrition and metabolism. Graduates of this program have successfully completed graduate programs in medicine. This includes health related sciences (physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, etc.,) and research. Many students have also entered the strength and conditioning profession through this major. Students are working as either personal trainers, corporate fitness or strength and conditioning coaches. The Health and Exercise Science program is a recognized educational program for t he study of st rength and conditioning by t he National Strength and Conditioning Association.
