45 FALL 2018 Beth Modica Coyle '85 is chief operating officer for Rockland Community College, State University of New York in Suffern. Linda DeRoo Merritt '88 earned her PhD in nursing science from Texas Women's University in Denton. The Mercer County (New Jersey) Association of School Administrators named Thomas A. Smith '89 the Superintendent of the Year for his service at Hopewell Valley Regional School District. '90s Gregory Moore '90 is commissioner of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Council of Presidents. Since his appointment in 2009, the SIAC has ranked first in NCAA Division II average football attendance each year and has added three member institutions (Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio; Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama; and Savannah State University in Georgia). The Belmar (New Jersey) Business Partner- ship appointed Christine Cardellino '91 to its board of trustees. Cardellino also writes and produces the award-winning Belmar Beachcomber blog to promote commerce, business, and tourism along the New Jersey shore. The American Association of University Women named Kathleen Hunzer '91 a Role Model for Equity. Hunzer, an English professor at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, is also the director of the school's Ann Lydecker lecture series, chair of the academic staff council, and president of Chapter 247 of Phi Kappa Phi. Julie Hall Gonzalez '94 released her debut picture book How Could a Bear Sleep Here? about a tired bear who mistakes the luggage compartment of a bus for a cave and winds up far from home. Christa Heatly Ferdig '95 earned a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Education Teaching, the highest honor the U.S. government gives to K–12 mathematics and science educators. She teaches at Long Neck Elementary School in Millsboro, Delaware. Bonnie-Lynn Nadzeika '96 started her own company, I'll Write for You, which focuses on grant writing for nonprofit organizations. Kevin Curran '97 is general manager of Toyota's Kansas City Regional Office. '50s David Buchanan '53 won the Federal Aviation Administration's prestigious Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, which recognizes individuals who have exhibited professionalism, skill, and aviation expertise for at least 50 years. David Gardner '56 and wife JoAnn '57 celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June. They met as students at Trenton State College in 1953. Both retired as New Jersey high school teachers, after 38 years of public school service. College holds wonderful memories of hour dances, plus Phi Epsilon Kappa and Arguromuthos Sigma events. '60s Beverly Kaye '65 received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Talent Development. The Toms River (New Jersey) Yacht Club elected Stanley Kazima '66, MA '77 as its commodore. '70s and '80s Westar Elementary School in Goodyear, Arizona, named Judy Dicks Adams '78 Teacher of the Year. Judy's husband, Steven '77, publishes the Real Estate Book of the White Mountains of Arizona. Jeffrey Varanyak '83 is a scientific illustrator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory.
