School of Education 29 Master of Arts in Teaching The Master of Arts in Teaching program consists of a core of courses that all degree candidates will complete, plus various specialization courses to meet state certification requirements in a particular discipline. The specialization disciplines currently include early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, and special education. In order to become certified, students successfully completing the Master of Arts in Teaching program must take and pass the PRAXIS Examination in their area of specialization and must also complete the state of New Jersey hygiene-physiological requirement.
